We were delighted to take part once again in the Suffolk Road Relays on 22 March at the Northern Gateway Sports Park. It’s always a fantastic event, bringing together many local clubs for a great morning of racing. Teams consist of three runners, each completing three laps of the approximately 3-mile course, with the Men’s Open running four laps.
It was especially wonderful to field an Under 11s team this year, with Dylan McDonald, Freya McDonald and Eira McDonald all putting in brilliant performances. In the junior races, our girls team of Aderyn McDonald (running twice) and Elsie Price ran superbly against strong competition to secure an excellent third place. The boys team of Joel Farmer, Felix Clover and Aidan Green also gave a fantastic account of themselves.
The seniors turned out in force, with teams across multiple age categories. In the ladies’ races, the V40 team of Lucy Jay, Geraldine Suckling and Elaine Turner finished 3rd, the V50 team of Nathalie Hooper, Sarah Watkins and Jo Sargent achieved a brilliant 2nd place, and the V60 team of Barbara Jousiffe, Belinda Godbold and Anne Herbert also secured 2nd.
The men’s teams matched this success, with the Open team of Tom Cowley, Kevin Long (running twice) and Kevin Carpenter finishing 3rd. The V40 team, featuring Rob Taylor (also running twice) and Andrew Turner, also took 3rd place, while the V60 team of Richard Cowley, David Godbold and Andrew Cross achieved an excellent 2nd.
For a small club, these results are something to be incredibly proud of. More than that, the camaraderie, encouragement and support shown to all runners—and to fellow clubs—made it a truly special day, with everyone leaving smiling.
