October has been yet another busy month for our runners who have been taking part in so many different races. Sam and Vicky Tapp kicked off the month running the Witchfinder Trail 10k in Mistley. They reported it was a very relaxed and friendly local event which supported a local charity and well worth entering next year.
On the 7 October a few Hares met up at Clare Castle Park Run for a social run. It was a lovely autumn morning and it is a great venue for a Park Run, not only for the scenery, but also the café! Lovely to have juniors and seniors running together, although the juniors whizzed past most of us!
Capel 5 was held on the 8 October and we were well represented by our runners. Well done to Daniel Cooper, Nikki Vince, Barbara Jousiffe, Crystal Murray, Belinda Godbold, Joel Bamsey, Ryan McNeil, Samatha Cooper and junior runner Aderyn McDonald. The conditions were exceptionally warm for an October morning but nonetheless all runners put their all in. Congratulations to Nikki who came first in her age group with a time of 41:39.
Geraldine Suckling, Vicky & Sam Tapp took part in Oxford Half Marathon on 15 October. This is an extremely popular race with a record 13,000 runners taking part. Vicky ran an excellent time of 1:45:15 knocking off 4 and half minutes for her personal best. In Saxmundham, Julia Bilotta ran Saxon 5 which is a multi terrain race. Meanwhile, representing Suffolk in the Eastern Counties 10k champs, Claire Jacobs ran in the Cambridge Town & Gown 10k. She ran a super race and finished 2nd in 33:40, 9 sec behind winner and Suffolk team mate Maddie Jordon-Lee.
Never one to keep still, Claire ran an outstanding race at Coventry Half Marathon on 29 October. In a field of just short of 2000 finishers, Claire finished 1st lady and 15th overall in what was a very demanding hilly course in a time of 1.16.41. The same weekend Geraldine Suckling was running Dublin Marathon in the pouring rain! This didn’t deter her from achieving a personal best of 4:27:26.
To finish off the month, we had our first North Essex & South Suffolk cross country race of the season which took place in Chemlsford. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a full team of juniors and seniors. Those who did run put in tremendous performances on what was a tough course around the fields of Writtle. Well done to Belinda Godbold who came 1st in her age group and to our runners of the day, Thomas Davis and Stuart Hunt.
