29 Hadleigh Hares proudly donned their Red Vests to compete against the other Clubs in Suffolk in the Annual County Cross Country Championships, which made a welcome return to The Royal Hospital School Holbrook after many years on Sunday 8th January 2023.
First race of the day at 11.30 was Under 11 Boys with Josh Arnold (12th) and Felix Clover (20th) running strongly in an event dominated by Woodbridge School.
Next up were the Under 11 Girls, with Isla Spraggons (14th) and Ella Baalham (18th) taking part
U13 Boys Alex Collins (2nd) and Finley Gunning (17th) Alex’s finish earnt him a place in the London Mini Marathon and their combined effort meant that they won 2nd Team Prize. Well done boys!!
Lucy Clover and Daniel Cooper then ran bravely in the U13 Girls and U15 Boys Races.
Then on to the Senior Races - 9 Men took on the 2 and a half lap course. First to finish was Aiden Bell (17th) followed by John Jousiffe (44th) Andy Turner (46th) Adam Chamberlain (87th) Joel Bamsey (124th) Ryan McNeill (129th) Steve Hunt (135th) Stuart Hunt (141st) and Andrew Stewart (145th)
Finally, last and certainly not least, the final race of the day was the Ladies, with a super showing of 12 Hares taking part. Rachel Bosworth lead the team in (34th) hotly pursued by Crystal Murray (35th) Elaine Turner (37th) and Vicky Tapp (44th) Belinda Godbold (52nd) Maria Ward (59th) Kay Oxford (60th) Nathalie Hooper (64th) Geraldine Suckling (73rd) Kitty Rigby (76th) Fiona Holland (79th) and Deb Stewart (83rd) Special mention to Belinda who was First Lady in her age group.
Both the Men’s and Ladies teams were 9th in the Team rankings, a great achievement given the size of Hadleigh compared to other Suffolk towns. Everyone left the event having met (and enjoyed!) the usual challenges of mud, rain, wind, hills and more rain, having had a good day of team work and camaraderie.
